Mediumship Studies at the Windbridge Intuited: There are two major research fronts in progress at the Windbridge Institute for Applied Research in Human Potential: Proof-focused studies aiming to gather evidence about mediums’ communication with the deceased (a phenomenon they call “anomalous information reception”) and Process-focused studies that investigate the mediums’ experiences of that communication. Director of Research Dr. Julie Beischel writes, “Both directions are important in order for us to understand the information that mediums report and use it appropriately as a society.” From: Winds of Change, Spring 2008, Windbridge Institute, www.windbridge.org/news.htm
Detecting the Astral Body: A study conducted by the Psychical Research Foundation tried to objectively detect the “astral body” of an Out-of-Body experiencer. The subject’s kitten was observed to be less mobile and less vocal when he was attempting to project himself into the room where the kitten was located. The results were statistically significant.
In another study that had statistically significant results, the American Society for Psychical Research attached sensors to a box holding an ESP target inside. A subject attempted to look at the target while he was out of his body. The findings indicated that the sensors were more active when the subject was able to describe the target in the box. The researchers felt that one explanation for this was that the sensors were somehow sensitive to the subject astral body. From: FATE magazine, April 2008, “Out of the Body and into the Lab,” by Bryan Williams Social Status can Erode Brain Power: The May issue of the journal Psychology will include a report by Pamela Smith of Radboud University in The Netherlands and three colleagues showing that modern, open and democratic societies may not reward brains and hard work with success after all. For instance if you begin life in a socially disadvantaged environment your education and hard work may not pay off as well as it does for someone coming from a privileged background. The study was based on college students who were placed in two groups: One labeled “unsuccessful” and the other “successful.” Follow-on thinking tests showed that the students labeled “unsuccessful” consistently displayed impairments in key thinking processes such as planning and updating a mental picture, and inhibiting irrelevant information. The findings have an implication for corporate management and schools and also illustrate how a perception, even one that is originally nothing more than “made up,” can create our reality. Mood can be Enhanced Through Intention: A study carried out last year by Dean Radin, Gail Hayssen and James Walsh used chocolate which had been intentionally imprinted with good intentions. Sixty-two subjects participated in the double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled experiment. Three groups received “treated” chocolate and a fourth group received untreated chocolate as a placebo control. Significant mood elevating results were recorded by those who received the treated chocolate. The conclusion of the experiment was that the mood-elevating properties of chocolate can be enhanced with intention. From: BioInfobank Library, http://lib.bioinfo.pl/auid:7396631
Not Happy? Just Wait: A U.S. survey conducted between 1972 and 2004 shows that the older people got the more likely they were to report being happy. Respondents answered the question, “Taken all together, how would you say things are these days … would you say that you are very happy, pretty happy, or not too happy?” Only fifteen to eighteen percent of eighteen-year olds reported being very happy, while over half of the people in their eighties said that they were very happy. Reporting on the survey, Yang Yang, a University of Chicago sociologist, said that, “With age comes happiness.” He said that the study confirmed a hypothesis that improvements in self-esteem that contribute to well-being come with age. Exorcism: Society of St. Paul Father Gabriele Amorth, Rome’s exorcist for the past twenty-one years, is talking about the devil and exorcism in a television and Internet report series. Father Amorth suggested that diabolic problems be separated from psychiatric ones and says that to do so an exorcist is needed in every diocese to help in discernment. “Normally when a person experiences these conflicts and problems, the first thing he does is see a doctor and psychiatrist,” he said. “It is very difficult to distinguish the devil’s action from a psychological problem. The person goes to a psychiatrist and after years of therapy, obtains no result. Then he begins to suspect that the problem is not a natural one and goes to a conjurer from whom he obtains even greater harm. This is what normally happens. At this point, it is possible that someone more experienced in these matters suggests an exorcist.” From: San Francisco Sentinel, “Rome’s Exorcist gives Inside
Look at the Devil,” Another New Paranormal Series: Fox has given Lost creator JJ Abrams’ new paranormal drama Fringe a green light for a full series. Variety reports that the series follows a young FBI agent, played by Anna Tory, who teams up with a scientist to investigate strange phenomena. No information yet on when it is set to air. “Given the importance of the mere possibility that something survives death, one might think that this would be a hot area of research. But as with research on psi in the living, there are perhaps five-to-ten scientists in the world who are actively studying this topic. The limiting issue is funding, not interest.
“One might think that purely out of curiosity the Department of Defense might allocate, say, 0.1% of their annual budget to study what happens after death, vs. the hundreds of billions a year spent each year on technologies designed to produce death: 99.9% devoted to the death machine, 0.1% to the follow-up question, “Then what?” seems reasonable to me.” From: www.deanradin.blogspot.com and Signs of Life, www.foreverfamilyfoundation.org Synchronicity, Mediumship and Electronic Voice Phenomena: A one day conference on November 8, 2008 titled “The Synchronized Universe—Exploring Communication with The Dead from Electronic Devices to Mediumship,” will be held at The Woodlands, 1 Southwoods Road, Woodbury NY (Long Island) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Woodlands is a beautiful old mansion and the employees have said that there are quite a few departed spirits that frequent the place. The morning session will be co-hosted by the Forever Family Foundation and the American Association of Electronic Voice Phenomena (AA-EVP). Guest speakers for the morning session will include Dr. Claude Swanson author of The Synchronized Universe and Tom and Lisa Butler authors of There is No Death and There are No Dead. The Butlers are the co-directors of the AA-EVP and will conduct a workshop on how to record Electronic Voice Phenomena. The afternoon will be filled with a luncheon/fundraiser for the Forever Family Foundation. This will be a sit-down meal with demonstrations from several well known mediums.
