Physical Phenomena in the UK: The Psychic World has been reporting on the mediumship of Stewart Alexander who has been conducting séances in England and receiving excellent physical phenomena. These are public séances and much of them take place in the dark. Stewart is held to a chair with plastic straps. During one séance, a red light was switched on and showed one of Stewart’s arms clear of the retaining plastic strap. At the end of the séance, Stewart was found once again secured to his chair.

The seminars entitled, “Stewart Alexander and Friends,” have become a regular autumn event at the Cober Hill Conference Center near Scarborough in Yorkshire, England. This past fall, one hundred lucky people were able to attend a two hour Alexander séance which included the materialization of a hand that could be seen in low red light, a levitating trumpet, personal communications from loved ones through direct voice and the levitation of Stewart tied to his chair. Next year’s event was fully booked within days of the seminars ending.

Psychics in China: The Chinese government reportedly finances the study of psychic phenomena and treats gifted psychics much like they treat their gifted athletes that take part in the Olympics. Programs in primary schools select and train those who show psychic gifts. The Chinese claim that they have superpsychics who can accelerate the molecular structure of their body to penetrate solid objects at will.

Pope Benedict XVI Channels John Paul III: This was the interesting title of an interview done by the German magazine, Der Spiegel, of Pope Benedict XVI. The new Pope is quoted as saying, “I hear him and I see him speaking, so I can keep up a continuous dialogue with him …. His nearness to me isn’t limited to words and texts, because behind the texts I hear the Pope himself. A man who goes to the Lord doesn’t disappear: I believe that someone who goes to the Lord comes even closer to us.” You may recall that in August after the stabbing death of his friend, Brother Roger Schutz, founder of the ecumenical Community of Taizé, he said that Schutz “was now visiting us and speaking to us from on high.”

Out-of-Body Experiences (OBE): One in ten people experience this phenomenon in which there is a sensation of floating and seeing the physical body as if it were a different person. The experience is reported by many different cultures and OBEs are often life-changing events. A team of scientists at the University of Manchester are studying the profile of those who have and haven’t had OBEs using an online questionnaire. David Wilde, the researcher running the project, hopes to isolate the differences between the two groups as well as gather details on the different kinds of OBEs in order to categorize these experiences more precisely.

Online OBE Survey: The International Academy of Consciousness would like your participation in an online Out of Body Experience survey. The Academy representative said, “Your participation is very important and will contribute to scientific studies and investigations regarding conscious projection (also called out-of-body experience, projection, astral travel, or astral projection). Your participation is also very important even if you have not experienced this phenomenon or do not know much about it.” Please go to www.iacworld.net/Projects/OBESurvey/index.htm and plan to spend 20 minutes completing the survey.

Academy to Change their Name: The Academy of Religion and Psychical Research announced in December that within six months they would be changing their name to The Academy of Spirituality and Paranormal Studies, Inc.(ASPSI), the board feels the new name better expresses what the Academy is all about. They are also seeking nonprofit tax-exempt status. The Academy publishes a quarterly Journal and a quarterly Bulletin and both make very interesting reading. For membership information, see their web site at www.aspsi.org/ or write to them at PO Box 614, Bloomfield, CT 06002.

Article on EVP in the SPR Journal: The October 2005 issue of the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research included an article by researcher, Alexander MacRae. Here is the abstract of the article, “An Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) experiment is described which took place in a laboratory screened against e.m. radiation and also acoustically isolated. The subsequent treatment of the results through sound processing is outlined, and the final analysis of the results through the use of a unique multiple-choice system is described. Comparative spectrograms of one EVP utterance and the same thing spoken in normal speech are provided to assess the physical basis of the results. The conclusion is drawn that voices of no natural origin were received in the screened laboratory.” Remember that the JSPR is a refereed, peer-review journal and that the article necessarily meets the SPR’s high standard for thoroughness and documentation.

Grants Issued for Research on EVP and Instrumental TransCommunication (ITC): It has been a long time coming, but grants are finally being given to conduct EVP/ITC research. Alexander MacRae actually received three different grants to study EVP this past year. The experiments for the Bial Foundation are to see if there are any time and content links between what a person conducting an EVP session says or asks and the utterances recorded. The Bial experiments will require four EVP sessions a month for two years Alec asks six predetermined questions during these sessions. He tells us that the entities have learned the procedure and are giving answers just before or at the same time that he asks a question and they have even reversed the situation and asked Alec the question first!

The SPR has awarded Anabela Cardoso and David Fontana a research grant to study EVP/ITC. The research has two main initiatives. In one, samples of voices will be analyzed to identify their acoustic characteristics and to determine if they differ from those of normal human voices. They will also be studying the acoustic differences, if any, between EVP and Direct Radio Voices (DRV). In the second initiative of the research, electromagnetic readings will be taken during successful ITC sessions to see if there is a measurable variation in these readings when communications are being received.

Life After Death: The Evidence, With Special Consideration to EVP and ITC: This is the title of a conference being hosted by the American Association of Electronic Voice Phenomena. The conference will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, June 8, 9 and 10, 2006. Some of the speakers are Dr. Gary Schwartz on the Afterlife Experiments, Dr. Allan Botkin on Induced After Death Communication and the mediums from the Scole experiments, Diana and Alan Bennett, who are now conducting ITC research. Successful ITC researchers from Brazil, Italy, Scotland, the UK and the United States will be there to share methods and techniques for successfully communicating with the other side through technology. For information on the conference write to Tom and Lisa Butler at PO Box 13111, Reno, NV 89507 or go online:
