More on the Search for the Divine: December, we mentioned the work being done by Eugene d'Aquili and Andrew Newberg concerning brain scans indicating changes associated with meditation. You may remember Melvin Morse, M.D., and Paul Perry for their best-selling book Closer to the Light. They now have a new book out called Where God Lives. The book takes a scientific approach to understanding our relationship with God by focusing on the brain's right temporal lobe. Morse believes that this portion of the brain interfaces directly with the universe, and calls it the "God Spot." The source of intuition and psychic talents, this area is latent in most people because these abilities have been dismissed as superstition and overruled by the left brain, or rational mind. The authors do not attempt to prove or explain how the "God Spot" works, but they do give many examples of how this area can be stimulated.

An argument for the existence of nonphysical reality based on physical science: R. D. Pearson, BSc, is a former university lecturer and engineer whose specialty is thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. He has written a book, Intelligence Behind The Universe, along with a companion booklet, Colossus, and an accompanying appendix of mathematical proof. (We have been unable to find the book in the States.) These purport to explain the cosmic force that drives the phenomenon of continuing life, and mathematically back up the experiments of Crookes and Hamilton. Pearson sees post-mortem survival of the human psyche as one of many functions of a multi-dimensional, multi-universal, sub-atomic grid matrix, on which all forms of life exist, and which sustains the etheric, as well as the physical consciousness of all living organisms.  (Comment: the phrase, “multi-dimensional, multi-universal, sub-atomic grid matrix” should be seen as a physical science effort to explain nonphysical reality.)

A. R. Wallace, best known as an evolutionist, naturalist and social critic, was one of history's most prominent defenders of Spiritualism, and several of his writings on the subject are on the “Alfred Russel Wallace Page," at www.wku.edu/~smithch/

Believe what you see: There is an interesting article at the back of the February Discover Magazine concerning human’s genetic predisposition to see faces in random noise. This subject is also addressed at www.discover.com. We would like to remind you that physical scientists are constrained to explain everything with known principles of physical science. By convention, they are not allowed to us nonphysical or metaphysical concepts. In EVP and video or photographic ITC, we are able to use nonphysical explanations, as well. We hold that the optical or sound noise is there and that the communicating entities take advantage of that noise to inject information like voices and images. When you hear these arguments, keep in mind that we believe the arrow of creation leads from Infinite Intelligence to our physical world. Physical scientists believe that the arrow of creation leads from some primordial soup to our current, evolved world.

Psychic Bird: An article in the SPR publication the Paranormal Review, January 2001, Issue 17 is titled "Love Your Parrot If You Want Your Mind Read." A video at the Amsterdam conference of the Society for Scientific Exploration showed Aimee Morgana of New York City with her parrot. The Parrot has a 500-word vocabulary. There is nothing paranormal about a parrot learning a lot of words, however, what is extraordinary is that the parrot comments on what is going through its owner’s mind.

Parrot and owner were placed in different rooms with the owner being given a randomized set of pictures in envelopes. As Aimee looked at the pictures, one by one, she and the parrot were simultaneously video taped and the reactions of the parrot were recorded. As an example, when Aimee looked at a couple dancing the parrot would comment, “They’re dancing.” Chance as an explanation was ruled out during the experiments run by Dr. Sheldrake.
